Bollywood Brass Band

Formed in London in 1992 to perform alongside the Shyam Brass Band from Jabalpur, the Bollywood Brass Band became the UK's pioneering Indian-style wedding band and has stayed there ever since. Seven to ten musicians — saxophones, trumpets, trombones, sousaphone, snare and bass drums — are joined by some of the UK's finest dhol drummers, a lineage that runs through Johnny Kalsi and the Dhol Foundation. They have played hundreds of weddings across the UK and abroad: Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Rajasthan, South Africa, Thailand and Muscat. Twice nominated for the Songlines Music Awards, their stages have included the Royal Albert Hall, Glastonbury, WOMAD, the London Mela, Sziget in Budapest, Roskilde, the Venice Carnival and Sydney's Olympic Stadium, with five albums recorded including a set of A.R. Rahman repertoire. For night-time entrances the Lit Up Band performs in illuminated LED costume, and Bollywood or bhangra dancers can join for the reception.
